The current jail's rated capacity is listed as 97 in the 2026 NC Jail Administrators directory. Citizen Connect showed 141 current confinements during the research inspection on June 23, 2026. Because that roster count changes, it should be described as an observed count. It is still useful because it shows the active load on the Duplin County Detention Center at the time inspected.

Local news reported a new detention center project, including a $44.1 million project approval in 2024 and a 57,000-square-foot, 250-bed replacement facility described by Correctional News.
